SKosch picks up win #2
The World Formula Modified Tour rolled into the 1/5 mile banked dirt oval of Hamlin Speedway this past Saturday night. The mighty Microstocks put on some thrills for the great crowd, the most exciting being the 4th turn flip of the #44 coupe driven by Arnold Riley of Highland Lakes, NJ. Riley’s car took a hard and sudden right hand turn into the concrete outside barrier during the beginning of the heat race causing the car to flip violently and put Riley into the track ambulance. Riley escaped unscathed but the car was finished for the nightcap event.
In the 20 lap feature race it was Tommy Kosch of Little Falls, NJ taking his second dirt win in a row. Kosch starting 5th of the inverted field took little time to get his 1K machine to the front of the pack. By lap 12 he was firmly in control, with Kievit’s #46 and Lund’s #17 dueling it out for 2nd position. Kievit took advantage and slipped by Lund to firmly secure the spot. Ben Serfass had a strong run going in his return to action and was up to 3rd when a deflating tire led to a chian failure taking him out of the race and setting up a green-white-checker finish. Kosch again got the jump at the green, with Kievit diving low , but the 1K was too strong and Kosch, again pulled away leaving Kievit and Lund to duel it out for 2nd. Although Kievit was able to close the gap on the leader, Kosch prevailed as the checkered flag waved.
Feature finish: KOSCH, Kievit, Lund, Gonzales, Boonstra, Serfass
